Finland boosts forestation in Vietnam

The Finnish Embassy in Vietnam and ActionAid Vietnam will hold a workshop on forestation and timber trade on November 24 to encourage public participation in forest management and poverty reduction.

The workshop forms part of activities to celebrate 100 years of Finland’s independence (December 6, 1917-2017), said Finnish Ambassador to Vietnam Kari Kahilouto at a press conference in Hanoi on November 23.

The Finnish Embassy will also coordinate with the Hanoi People’s Committee to hold a tree planting ceremony at the intersection of Tran Thai Tong, Ton That Thuyet and Pham Van Bach streets on November 25, the diplomat said.

The 100 trees to be planted demonstrate 100 years of Finland’s independence as well as the close friendship between Vietnam and Finland. The event will also contribute to Hanoi’s effort to build a green and sustainable city.

Other activities include a ceremony on November 27 to announce the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s decision to issue the Forest Resources Monitoring System, the ambassador said.
