Four Peruvians arrested for ATM theft

Police of Ho Chi Minh City recently detained four Peruvian nationals suspected of stealing about VND1.4 billion (over US$66,660) from an automate teller machine (ATM) in the central province of Khanh Hoa.

Deputy Director of the city’s Department of Public Security Major General Phan Anh Minh announced on April 10 that the theft was carried out at an ATM of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) located at a post office in Dien Khanh township of Khanh Hoa.

The group broke in through the post office window and took around VND1.4 billion after damaging the machine using welding equipment.

They were handed over to Khanh Hoa police for further investigation, Minh said, adding that the groups is suspected of committing similar robberies in Hanoi and southern Dong Nai province.

The officer added the quartet is also the likely suspect of an ATM robbery at the Electric Power Junior College in HCM City’s District 12 on early February 25.
