Hanoi’s bus route change starts January 2

Major changes in the bus routes from the capital are to go into effect on January 2, said the deputy director of the city’s Transport Department, Ha Huy Quang. The changes are intended to reduce congestion.

Bus routes departing from Hanoi to the provinces of Dak Lak, Gia Lai in the Central Highlands, Ha Tinh, Nghe An in the central region, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa and Ninh Binh in the north, will move to Nuoc Ngam Station in the south of the city.

Currently, buses leave from six different stations - My Dinh, Gia Lam, Yen Nghia, Son Tay, Troi and Phung.

Bus routes linking the city with northern provinces of Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Ha Giang. Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Quang Nam, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Vinh Phuc, and Yen Bai will be shifted to My Dinh Station.

Routes linking the city with the provinces of Ba Ria Vung Tau in the south, Kon Tum and Dak Nong in the Central Highland, Dien Bien, Hoa Binh and Thanh Hoa in the north will be transferred from crowed stations in My Dinh, Giap Bat and Nuoc Ngam to Yen Nghia Station.

Passengers to the northern provinces of Ha Nam, Hai Duong, Haiphong and Hung Yen will depart from Giap Bat Station in the south of the city, while those going to the provinces of Bac Giang and Lang Son will depart from Gia Lam Station.

The city’s Transport Department has asked provincial departments to advise bus companies of the changes in order to implement them effectively.

The city department asked transport companies to co-ordinate closely with relevant offices and station management boards to urgently finalize contracts with the new stations and end the ones with the previous ones.

Management boards of bus stations in the city have been told to set up detailed timetable to ensure the stable operation of transport enterprises, and submit them to the Transport Department for approval.

Ticket prices must be posted in all stations. The city’s transport police and inspectors have been tasked with studying the new route plan so they can deal with violations immediately.
