HCM City exhibition helps expand int’l pharmacy market

(VOV) - The 15th International Medical-Pharmacy Exhibition opened in HCM City on August 20, aiming to bolster exports and promote domestic pharmaceuticals and medical equipment.

More than 250 businesses from 25 countries and territories are showcasing their medical products, equipment and services at 300 booths.

Bui Thi Thanh An, Deputy Head of the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said at the opening ceremony that Vietnam’s singing of some important free trade agreements (FTAs) helped provide an excellent opportunity for domestic medical and pharmaceutical businesses to thrive . However, this also posed a number of challenges with fierce competition from global rivals.

An described the exhibition as an effective bridge and important trade promotion opportunity for domestic businesses to meet and gain experiences to attract investment into the Vietnamese market, seek foreign partners and expand regional and international marketplaces.

During the event running until August 22, there will be a seminar introducing the Vietnamese medicine and pharmacy market, as well as its regulations and policies, and tours of hospitals in HCM City to help foreign business delegations have an overview of healthcare check-ups and treatments in Vietnam.

According to the organising board, Vietnam’s medical equipment turnover was estimated at US$800 million last year and projected to reach US$1.2 billion in 2016.

Around 90% of all medical equipment was imported from the US, Japan, and Germany.
