Ninh Thuan sees rapid increase in outbreaks of dengue fever
VOV.VN - The south central province of Ninh Thuan has experienced a boom in the number of dengue fever cases in several places in six out of seven districts in the region, according to the provincial Department of Health.

Accordingly, the number of dengue fever cases have rapidly increased with 28 people infected by the disease each week.
Nguyen Nhi Linh, deputy director of the Ninh Thuan Centre for Disease Control under the provincial Department of Health, said that since the beginning of the year, the locality has recorded 860 cases of dengue fever, a huge rise of 752 cases in comparison with the same period last year.
The spread of the disease can be attributed to limitations in public awareness about taking preventive measures against the diseases.
For example, some households still have pools of water building up in daily objects such as flowers and ornamental plants pots, which facilitate the development of mosquito larvae.
Coupled with a lack of awareness is the fact that local authorities in the province have yet to fully heighten their response to match the spread of the disease or devise plans to combat it.
Despite the health sector regularly spreading information on dengue fever, a number of localities in the region have not remained vigilant with regard to prevention work.
Currently, the provincial Department of Health has directed the Ninh Thuan Centre for Disease Control to co-ordinate efforts alongside medical stations at grassroots levels in order to speed up the process of getting people informed about the disease, especially in areas with the highest number of cases of dengue fever.
The local health sector has also tightened control over the source of the disease by preparing sufficient quantities of chemicals and medicines in order to cope with outbreaks in line with treatment procedures set out by the Ministry Health in a timely manner.
Since the start of the year, the provincial Centre for Disease Control has co-operated with medical centres at grassroots levels to spray chemicals and deal with 67 outbreaks of dengue fever in some of the region’s localities.
This has been done alongside the launch of campaigns aimed at encouraging people to clean up the environment and eradicate mosquito larvae found in residential areas and households in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
