Norway supports disabled people in Can Tho, Ca Mau

The Norwegian Mission Alliance in Vietnam will provide US$451,000 to implement a project on social integration for the disabled in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho and in southern Ca Mau province.

The project is set to be carried out in Can Tho city’s Ninh Kieu district and Ca Mau province’s Thoi Binh district from March 1, 2016 to December 31, 2020.

At a conference to launch the project, chairwoman of the Vietnam Federation on Disability Dang Huynh Mai said that the project will focus on developing local organisations of the disabled, raising public awareness of disabled people as well as providing education and training to the disabled.

Since its establishment in 2013, Can Tho city’s Association of People with Disabilities has helped disabled people integrate into society. The association has provided free training for nearly 200 members, found jobs for some 200 people while providing medical checkups, medicine and healthcare insurance for nearly 500 people.

It also organised foreign language, computer science and soft skill classes for the disabled.
