Outstanding firms receive science-technology award

(VOV) -Hanoi hosted a ceremony on April 24 to present the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) 2013 Award to leading Vietnamese science and technology firms.

The awards were given to 33 most prominent projects involved in six areas - mechanical automation; material technology; information technology, electronics, and telecoms; bio-technology; environmentally friendly technology and efficient use of natural resources; and energy saving and use of new energy.

Among top prize-winners were a project implemented by engineer Nguyen Cong Lam and his colleagues to design electric vehicles to transport patients in hospitals, and a project of Nguyen Van Quy from Thanh Hoa province on non-chemical rice preservation in a low-pressure environment for 30 months.

Addressing the ceremony, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, Nguyen Thien Nhan said the WIPO Award has helped stimulate the emulation movement of scientific and technological creation and innovation in Vietnam. 

He asked the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Organizations and relevant agencies to continue organizing such awards, with a focus on high-tech application, environmental protection, and energy saving.

On this occasion, the organizing board also launched a similar award for 2014.
