Passenger plane makes U-turn due to smoke

VOV.VN - A passenger plane en route to Con Dao island in southern Vietnam was forced to return to Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport on March 14 after smoke was detected.

The flight which was operated by the Vietnam Air Services Company (VASCO), an affiliate of Vietnam Airlines, was scheduled to depart from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao island, at 14.30.

However, the plane ATR 72-500 was forced to divert and return to Tan Son Nhat airport 30 minutes after takeoff due to smoke.

Passengers were ordered to evacuate from the plane and wait for another plane to take them to the final destination. No one was injured.

Several passengers said they were worried knowing that the plane was forced to make a U-turn while it was travelling en route to Con Dao.

A VASCO representative confirmed the incident and said the firm deployed another plane to take the passengers to the island several hours later.

VASCO said the incident was caused by technical failure.
