Rally marks Ukraine National Day in Hanoi
VOV.VN - The Vietnam-Ukraine Friendship Association recently held a rally in Hanoi to mark the 25th anniversary of Ukraine National Day (August 24, 1991), that attracted hundreds of participants.
In a speech at the event, Dang Van Chien, president of the Association, dilated on the close ties of friendship that have developed between the two nations since Ukraine declared its independence.
The two countries established diplomatic ties on January 23, 1992 noting that they have regularly exchanged high-level visits and contacts at all levels of the government since then.
Trade between the two nations has been modest, however, with the total commercial trade of Vietnam falling far short of its full potential averaging US$540 million annually, noted Mr Chien.
Nearly 10,000 Overseas Vietnamese currently reside in the Ukraine, he said, and serve as an important cultural and economic bridge strengthening friendship between the two countries and its peoples.
