He worked with the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Cao Duc Phat, and provincial authorities on the field trip to inspect the current situation and the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

They reviewed Vietnam’s disaster risk management, preparations for the World Humanitarian Summit 2016, and climate change resilience efforts.

Eliason promised to deliver the aspirations of those badly affected by drought and saline intrusion to the World Humanitarian Summit and call for international support.

He said the UN will help Vietnam mitigate the adverse consequences of climate change.

The UN official said he will convey information and images of Vietnam’s climate change-induced losses to a meeting in Turkey later this month.
