VFF Vice President welcomes int'l religious organization leader

VOV.VN - Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Tran Thanh Man on February 22 received Deputy Secretary General of the World Conference of Religions for Peace Kyoichi Sugino in Hanoi.

Vietnam has recognized 40 organizations representing 14 religions and  the country consistently respects and ensures people’s right to religious and non-religious freedom, Man told his guest.

Religions have contributed significantly to Vietnam’s development and defense, patriotic movements, and social and humanitarian activities, he added.

Sugino in turn said he hopes the VFF will cooperate with his organization to foster links between religions in Vietnam and others in Southeast Asia.

He said his visit aims to get the Vietnamese Party and government’s feedback on dialogues and coordination among religions in Southeast Asia and the possibility of developing a foundation for cooperation among Vietnamese religions.

The World Conference of Religions for Peace is an international non-governmental organisation based in New York which works to promote peace, sustainable development and environment protection via cooperation among religions.
