Vietnam, Laos scholars discuss protection of traditional cultural values

VOV.VN -The Parties, States and peoples of Vietnam and Laos should work closely to protect their traditional cultural values and the valuable asset of the special friendship between the two countries in the context of wide-ranging international integration and impacts of the market economy.

This view was shared by Vietnamese and Laos scholars at at a symposium in Ho Chi Minh City on December 29, which saw the attendance of lecturers and researchers from 20 universities and research institutes of both nations.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dexanourath Seneduangdeth from the National University of Laos (NUL) said the traditional cultural values of Vietnam and Laos have been developed through thousands of years, serving as a firm underpinning for the nation to move ahead. 

Such values need to be preserved and carried forward in the context of globalisation and international integration, he stressed.

Dr. Huynh Thanh Dat, Director of the Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh (VNUHCM), underscored the need to find a cultural policy suitable with the reform process of each country.

Apart from encouraging cultural exchange and absorbing selectively cultural values of the era, it is essential to raise public awareness of traditional cultural values as well as the importance of the protecting and promoting work, he said.
