Local chess players bow out of Eastern Asia Chess Championships
VOV.VN -Two Vietnamese chess players were eliminated from the Eastern Asia Chess Championships FIDE Zone 3.3 Open, which concluded in Mongolia on Apirl 15.

Tran Tuan Minh, seeded No 1 in the men’s category, endured a number of poor performances, ultimately being ranked in 24th place with 4.5 points.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Van Huy finished his nine matches level on points with Megaranto Susanto of Indonesia and Gan Erdene Sugar of host nation Mongolia.

After going to tie-breakers, the Indonesian chess player was declared the tournament’s winner and earned his ticket to compete at the World Chess Championship in 2020.
As a result, Van Huy was forced to face off against his Mongolian rival to secure the remaining spot.
Huy held Gan Erdene Sugar to a draw after two matches, meaning they were forced to compete in a sudden death round.
Unfortunately, Huy was defeated by his Mongolian counterpart and finished in third position.
On the women’s side, four female athletes, including Thanh An, Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Hoang Thi Bao Tram, and Vo Thi Kim Phung, also miss a chance to secure berth at at World Chess Championship in 2020. They ranked fourth, sixth, seventh, and eighth positions, respectively.
