Saigon Breaking Battle winners Fido Crew to compete in France next year

Fido Crew outplayed 20 other breakdance groups to win the Saigon Breaking Battle – On the Road to Paris 2024 in a final round held at Ho Chi Minh City Cultural House for Youth on May 11 evening.

The competition was co-hosted by the French Institute of Ho Chi Minh City, SNT Crew Breakdance of France, and Goethe Institute to welcome the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It aimed to promote cultural exchanges between Europe and Vietnam, especially with Vietnamese youth, through breakdancing.

This is the first year this street sport has been included in competition at the Olympics.

Breakdancing, also called b-boying, b-girling or breaking, is a style of street dance developed in New York in the 1970s, characterized by its jerky body movements, its acrobatic aspect and its figures on the ground. It is one of the four fundamental disciplines of Hip-Hop culture alongside rap, deejaying and graffiti.

Since it was introduced to Vietnam, this sport has received great support of young people, and it has in recent years been included in many international competition systems.

Breaking Vietnam won a silver medal at the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) held in the Philippines in 2019, and a gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games held in Cambodia in 2023.
