Vietnam looking for new coach following Troussier's departure
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) is urgently looking for a new head coach of the national football team after terminating its contract ahead of schedule with Frenchman Philippe Troussier on March 26.
Troussier, nicknamed "The White Wizard", ended his one-year tenure in charge of the Vietnamese national football team with the worst win percentage of any coach in the team's history at just 31%.
Home supporters shouted loud “Troussier, Out!” after Vietnam conceded a 0-3 loss to Indonesia on their home soil on March 26. Vietnam were also stunned 0-1 by Indonesia in their away match on March 21.
In Group F, Iraq retained their top position after four successive wins, while Indonesia stayed in second place with seven points. Vietnam finished in third position with only three points, and their chance of progressing through to the third round of the World Cup Qualifiers is now very slim, as they are due to play the Philippines and Iraq in June.
Only two group winners are qualified to enter the third qualifying round, according to FIFA regulations.
According to sources, VFF plans to talk to former national U23 manager Hoang Anh Tuan about taking temporary charge of the national team.
On social media, Vietnamese fans also suggested several candidates for the position, such as former chief coach Park Hang-seo, Vietnamese coach Hoang Anh Tuan, Thai legend Kiatisuk Senamuang, former Vietnam U23 coach Gong Oh Kyun, and Hai Phong FC’s coach Chu Dinh Nghiem.
