Thailand, Vietnam boost trade links

VOV.VN -  Vietnam's Trade Promotion Agency and Thai Embassy in Hanoi have jointly held a workshop to promote bilateral trade and investment cooperation.

The event on December 14 was one of activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties. 

Hung Yen province and Can Tho city were selected as the investment destination suggestions for Thai investors. 

Delegates were updated on bilateral strategic trade cooperation, investment priorities and local commitments. 

They agreed to accelerate diplomatic and economic exchanges to boost cooperation in areas of Vietnam’s potential advantages, including textiles and garments, cosmetics, food and machinery. 

Vietnamese businesses will be encouraged to run more promotional activities in Thailand to attract more local investors.

By the end of July 2016, Thailand has been the 10th biggest foreign investor in Vietnam with 466 valid projects worth nearly US$9.5 billion Thai projects have been underway in 41 out of 63 Vietnamese provinces and cities, mostly in the sectors of processing, manufacturing, retails, construction and services.

Meanwhile, Vietnam has 10 projects in Thailand valued at US$25.8 million, ranking 22nd out of 55 countries and territories investing in the country.

Vietnam-Thailand trade value reached almost US$10 billion by the end of October 2016 and is expected to double by 2020.
