HCM City to host nation’s first Debutante Ball

(VOV) - HCM City will host the nation’s first International Debutante Ball on February 15 at the Sheraton Hotel and attending the high-society event is sure to become the new status symbol.

Guests of honour for the evening will include former Miss Vietnam titleholders Dang Thu Thao and Miss Hoang My, former Miss Universe Duong Truong Thien Ly, singer Dam Vinh Hung, and members of the 365 Daband.

All the gowns for the evening will be designed by Korean designers Vo Viet Chung and the tuxedos by Alex Suh.

A debutante ball is an event where in many cultures young ladies or gentlemen are formally introduced as an adult into society. The ball is elegant, noble and very ceremonial and carries with it a very strong upper-class feeling.

In the US, a debutante ball is often called a cotillion, which is a series of classes that offer instruction in dancing, manners, deportment, and other social graces. Deportment refers to the way in which a person behaves, stands, and moves in formal situations.

In making the announcement, organizers of the event said that Vietnamese society needs elites like (the debutantes) to help build positive social morality and establish correct values.

The event is open to both young ladies and gentlemen aged 16 to 22. To register call the event hotline (08) 39308698 or visit its Facebook page for the Debutante Ball Vietnam.

Organizers stressed that debs don't necessarily need to be from a wealthy family or a strong lineage (‘though a strong lineage helps’), but they must have elegance, quality, style and a proper family upbringing.

Prior to the ball, participation requires attending a training course on dancing, manners, deportment, and other social graces.
