HCM City primary schools to use Escuela Nueva

The Department of Education and Training in Ho Chi Minh City has asked districts to begin using the Vietnam Escuela Nueva (VNEN) methodology at more local schools in the 2016-2017 academic year.

The methodology develops 21st century skills for students, including independent learning, critical thinking and problem solving, and communication and cooperation.

Students at schools which use VNEN take part in self-management councils where they are encouraged to express their viewpoints and differences. They are expected to learn independently and conduct self-assessments, and are inspired to reach their full potential.

In the 2015-2016 academic year, 284 of 515 primary schools in the city are applying the methodology.

The Global Partnership of Education-VNEN has been carried out in more than 2,500 primary schools nationwide for four years.

The Ministry of Education and Training has approved expanding the implementation of the methodology to 1,600 secondary schools in the country in the 2015-2016 academic year.
