More than half of century have elapsed since Hanoi was liberated on October 10, 1954 the capital city has made great strides in socio-economic development, deserving to be the political, economic and cultural centre of the entire nation.

In recent years, Hanoi has achieved important results in all fields, including a high and steady economic growth, social and cultural development, political stability and security. As a result, local residents’ living standards have been improved. In addition, the city has paid due attention to Party and administration building to train qualified officials for grassroots administrations.

Over the past nine months, despite difficulties and challenges, the city’s agencies and people have made great efforts to fulfil its tasks. The achievements have motivated the city to fulfil tasks for this year and the coming years.

To mark its 53rd Liberation Day, Hanoi honoured role models who have excelled in the
“Good people, good deed” movement as well as other patriotic emulation movements, contributing to the city’s achievements during the renewal process city renewal process.

To meet the increasing demand for its socio-economic development, the municipal Party committee, authorities and people are determined to fulfil key programmes and fulfil tasks set at the 14th Municipal Party Congress. From now till the end of the year, the city will focus on seven groups of tasks and solutions.

Accordingly, it will mobilise all resources for development, successfully meet socio-economic targets for 2007 and achieve a GDP growth rate of 12 percent.

The city will continue to develop culture, education and training, science and technology, health, and sports and physical training. It will solve urgent social issues including employment, fight against crimes, bridge the gap between rich and poor, and continue to promote the “Paying Debts of Gratitude” movement by helping wounded soldiers, families of the martyrs and policy beneficiaries.

The capital will enhance urban management and construction, specially focussing on urban planning. It will facilitate the construction of key works to mark its 1,000th anniversary in 2010. It will also ensure political security, social order, and consolidate national defence and local military.

The city will renew the management and leadership work, step up administrative reform, actively combat corruption and wastefulness, practice thrift, and continue to implement the movement “Studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example”.
