Hanoi’s industry sector targets 8% growth for 2018

Hanoi’s Department of Industry and Trade eyes a pickup of 7.7-8.1% in export revenue, 8.2% increase in Index of Industrial Production (IIP) and 11% surge in total retail sales.

The information was announced by the department’s Director Le Hong Thang on December 22.

In a bid to realise the set target, the department will enhance trade promotion, seek ways to expand domestic markets and diversify export markets, and provide information on markets, export products and free trade agreements that Vietnam has joined in.

Developing support industries and attending international fairs to seek partners will be prioritised as well.

Along with efforts to promote “Vietnamese people prioritise using Vietnamese goods” campaign, the department will work to develop production, address difficulties for local enterprises, and speed up construction of shopping malls, supermarkets and markets.

Meanwhile, the city will pay due attention to curbing inflation rate and stabilising supply-demand.

The city’s industrial production in 2017 reached nearly VND500 trillion (US$22 billion), 7.3% higher than the figure in 2016. Export revenue rose 10.3% year on year to US$11.77 billion.
