All 54 Vietnamese shrimp producers, that exported products to the US from July 2004 to January 2006, have filed a petition with the US Department of Commerce (DOC), asking it to reconsider the anti-dumping duties imposed on Vietnamese shrimp imports, according to Truong Dinh Hoe, vice general secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

On March 8, DOC will announce the list of companies from China, Thailand, India, Brazil, Ecuador and Vietnam that will have the duty levels imposed on their shrimp imports reconsidered. The deadline for shrimp exporters to lodge their requests for duty reconsideration was February 28. If selected, these companies will have 90 days to decide on whether or not to get involved in the process.

The fishery sector earned US$2.65 billion from exports last year, of which half the total came from shrimp exports.
