European consumers are increasingly choosing Vietnamese seafood over its competitors, said Markus Cornaro, head of the European Commission (EC) delegation in Vietnam.

The outgoing EC Ambassador was awarded the insignia "For the development of Vietnam's fisheries industries" on June 8.


Mr Cornaro said Vietnam has performed well in the supervision of food safety, according to the EC's recent inspection results.


In a fact-finding tour of the industry, he said that Vietnamese processors have managed to maintain high levels of quality while expanding catching activities and seafood processing. "This benefits not only European consumers but also local people," he emphasized.
