The Vietnam National Assembly highly appreciates the guidelines of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF), including protection and promotion of democracy, law-governed state, human rights and cultural diversity, said Vietnam NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong.

The statement was made Ms Phong at the fourth Asia-Pacific regional meeting of APF being held in Hanoi on November 20-21. The meeting discusses topics such as the impact of the global economic crisis on the Francophonie countries in the Asia-Pacific and the maintenance of Francophone Space in the region.

Ms Phong said APF has actively participated in the institutional activity of the Francophonie, initiated and carried out many activities to boost inter-parliamentary cooperation as well as strengthening the friendship and solidarity among parliamentary bodies, especially those of the Francophonie.

As a member of APF, the Vietnam NA creates favourable conditions for its APF Sub-Committee to take part in and contribute to the organization’s operations, said Ms Phong.

APF Asia-Pacific was established in the Vietnamese city of Hue in 2006 to maintain and develop values pursued and protected by APF and to preserve and develop the Francophone space. So far, its activities have helped increase mutual understanding and solidarity between parliamentarians of countries in the region.

At the meeting, the APF Administrative Secretary General Jean Luc La La and many other delegates praised the Vietnam National Assembly’s active participation in APF and APF Asia-Pacific operations.
