Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna in Hanoi on September 16, affirming Vietnam’s efforts to deepen the strategic partnership between Vietnam and India.

The PM said he hopes the two sides will effectively implement bilateral agreements and join hands to prepare for State President Truong Tan Sang's upcoming official visit to India, during which many important agreements are expected to be signed, bringing the two countries’ relationship to a new level.

He spoke highly of the 14th session of the Vietnam - India Joint Committee on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation held in Hanoi on the same day, saying that it will make a significant contribution to promoting relations between the two countries.
According to the PM, two-way trade is likely to reach US$3 billion in 2011 and US$7 billion by 2015. Investment is also being developed, but is currently still moderate compared to its potential.

At the reception, PM Dung extended an invitation to his Indian counterpart to visit Vietnam and thanked the Indian government for its assistance in building a high-quality information and technology centre, saying that Vietnam hoped to receive more help from India and boost cooperation between the two countries at international forums.

Foreign Minister Krishna affirmed that India was interested in developing the strategic partnership with Vietnam.

He said the 14th session of the Vietnam - India Joint Committee discussed measures to promote bilateral cooperation in security and defence, economic trade, investment, culture and science and technology.

The Foreign Minister said that during his visit to Vietnam, the two sides will inaugurate the high quality information and communication technology human resource centre (ARC-ICT) funded by the Indian government, prepare to launch an Indian cultural centre in Hanoi and assist a project to restore the Cham towers at My Son, in Quang Nam province. They will also discuss preparations to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-India diplomatic ties.
