A high-level Vietnamese delegation led by Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh left the city of Santiago de Cuba on June 3, concluding an official visit to Cuba.

From the plane, Mr Manh cabled a message, thanking the Cuban Party, State and people for their warm welcome and hospitality. He said he was happy with the tremendous achievements made by the Cuban people over the past years as well as Cuba’s increasing role and position in the region and the world. He said talks and meetings between the two countries’ top leaders and signed agreements were hard evidence of the relations of friendship, mutual trust and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba. He expressed his belief that bilateral relations will further develop following the visit and that Cuba will obtain greater achievements in national construction and development under the clear-sighted leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba.

He also extended his best regards to President Fidel Castro and other Party and State leaders and wished them further success in their leadership.

While in Santiago de Cuba, Mr Manh called on the Mariana Grajales Information Technology Academy and attended a friendly meeting with Vietnam, attracting thousands of students and local people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Manh expressed his happiness at visiting Cuba and particularly Santiago de Cuba – the cradle of the Cuban revolution and the heroic city. He noted that the Vietnamese Party, State and people are proud to have Cuban friends who are struggling hard to light the beacon of socialism on the Western hemisphere.

Mr Manh laid a wreath at Jose Marti Monument and called on the Moncada Barracks and Siboney Farm, which were closely linked to the historic 1953 assaults of guerrillas led by Fidel Castro to drive away the Batista genocidal regime.
