Vietnam calls for international commitment to nuclear disarmament

VOV.VN - Vietnam is committed to full nuclear disarmament, said Nguyen Phuong Nga, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, at the first UN talks on a global nuclear weapons ban on March 28 in New York.

She expressed concern over the threat of nuclear weapons to world peace and international security, warned of possible consequences, and called on countries owning nuclear weapons to commit to disarmament and respect nuclear-free zones. Ms Nga said all UN member countries must promote and maintain international security.

120 countries, international agencies, and non-government organizations are taking part in the UN talks.

The US representative affirmed the US commitment to nuclear disarmament and prevention, but said the current situation is not suitable for a nuclear ban yet.
