Senior officials meet to prepare for ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit

The ASEAN-India Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) convened a working session in New Delhi, India, on January 23 to review preparations for the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit slated for January 25 in the city.

A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, who is also head of SOM ASEAN Vietnam, attended the event.

At the meeting, Vietnam, as the coordinator of the ASEAN-India relations, and other countries agreed on the agenda and activities of the Commemorative Summit.

Leaders of the countries are expected to review the cooperation between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and India over the past 25 years, roll out cooperation orientations in the time to come, and discuss regional and international issues of shared concern.

They will also have a retreat to talk about the enhancement of maritime cooperation between the ten-member group and India.

The Delhi Declaration is set to be issued at the end of the event.

As part of activities marking the 25th anniversary of the ASEAN-India dialogue relations, the senior officials of the two sides visited the ASEAN-India textile exhibition and the ASEAN-India youth award ceremony.
