Brunei wishes to boost multi-faced cooperative relations with Vietnam and support the country as the ASEAN Chair in 2010, Brunei’s King Haji Hassanal Bolkiah said at a meeting with Party leader Nong Duc Manh on April 8.

He stressed Brunei’s policies and aspirations to cooperate with Vietnam in various areas, especially in investment, services, oil and gas, education and labour export.

The King congratulated Vietnam on its outstanding achievements during its renewal and international integration process.

For his part, Mr Manh spoke highly of King Bolkiah’s contributions to enhancing two-way relations over the years, saying that the two countries should make further efforts to step up cooperation in economics, culture-sports and people-to-people exchanges to match with the two countries’ potential.

He thanked the Brunei government for its timely and valuable support for Vietnam to help the country overcome the destruction of tropical storm Ketsana last year and expressed his wish that Brunei would further cooperate with Vietnam during the latter’s tenure as ASEAN Chair, thus contributing to peace, cooperation and development in the region.
