Vietnam now issues int’l driver permits

(VOV) -The Vietnam Road Administration has announced it began issuing international driving permits (IDPs) on November 3 under guidelines approved last month by the Transport Ministry.

Those who wish to obtain one must submit an application along with a valid driver’s license and passport (for foreigners) or permanent residence card (for residents) along with a fee of roughly US$7 (VND150,000).

It takes five days to receive the license.

According to the Circular 73/2012/TT-BTC issued by the ministry, the fee is applicable to all licence holders regardless of nationality or category of vehicle.

Currently only the Vietnam Road Administration will issue the permits but plans are for other provincial transport departments to start issuing them next month.
