A tour of historical sites in Truong Son

VOV.VN - Summer has come to the central region. The heat does not prevent pilgrims from visiting historical sites in Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces. Every day, the Cave of eight ladies, the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery, the Road number 9 Martyrs' Cemetery, and Quang Tri Citadel are flooded with fresh flowers.

The Cave of eight ladies is located in Tan Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province. 55km northwest of Dong Hoi city, the cave is a famous historical place where eight young volunteers from Thanh Hoa province sacrificed their lives during the anti-US war. The sacrifice of eight young volunteers at their 20s has become a great symbol of patriotism.
Today, the cave is a spiritual tourist destination, attracting many visitors.
Visitors to Quang Tri often stop at the Hien Luong Bridge across the Ben Hai River, which divided Vietnam during war time.
At the end of April, people from all over the country flock to the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery and the Road number 9 Martyrs' Cemetery  in Quang Tri to pay tribute.
The Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery is the resting place of 10,333 soldiers who sacrificed themselves on the Ho Chi Minh trail during the anti-American war.

Covering an area of 15 hectares, the Road number 9 Martyrs' Cemetery  is the resting place of more than 10,000 heroes, paratroopers, and young volunteers fighting in the battlefields of Quang Tri and Laos during the anti-American war.

Quang Tri Citadel is located at the center of Quang Tri town, about 2km east of the National Highway 1A. The ancient citadel is a military fortification and is the local administrative headquarters of the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945) in Quang Tri.
During the 81-day Quang Tri battle in 1972, the citadel became famous for its glorious victories and heroic sacrifices in the fight to protect the town.
The center of the ancient citadel of Quang Tri is designed as a mass grave based on the concept of yin and yang to free the souls of martyrs.

Inside the citadel sits the poem of veteran Pham Dinh Lan to his former comrades in arms. Lan, who fought in Quang Tri in 1972, wrote the verse during his visit to the former battlefield.
The citadel is decorated with many green trees. There are several monuments on the lawns to honor the sacrifices of the heroic martyrs who fell in the ancient citadel.
