Myanmar landslide buries over 100 jade miners

At least 11 people were killed and many others are reported missing after a landslide hit a jade mining region on May 24 in Hpakant town in northern Kachin, Myanmar due to a heavy downpour on May 23.

A local official told the media that 11 bodies have been recovered, while about 100 others were buried.

Local government and villagers are exerting efforts to search for the burried, however, the search is being hindered by poor transport vehicles and information.

Hpakant is 950 kilometres north of Yangon. Last year, a number of landslides occurred in the region, including one in November that killed over 100 people.
