Russia’s First Deputy Foreign Minister visits Vietnam

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh held a reception in Hanoi on March 3 for Russia’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov during his working visit to Vietnam.

Minh spoke highly of the results of cooperation between the countries, particularly in politics-diplomacy, economics-trade, security-defence and interpersonal exchange. He affirmed the maintenance of the two ministries’ political consultation mechanism has contributed significantly to the efficiency of cooperative programmes.

2015 will be a highly significant year as the two countries celebrate the 65 th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, he emphasised, suggesting both ministries coordinate closely with relevant ministries and sectors to prepare for high-level visits and accelerate the implementation of strategic projects involving trade, oil and gas, and nuclear power.

He mentioned the signing of a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Europe-Asia Economic Union, the Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear power plant project progress, and the operation of oil and gas joint ventures in Vietnam and Russia as examples.

The guest emphasised that senior Russian leaders continue to attach importance to their country’s comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam.

He appreciated the dynamic and efficient growth in bilateral cooperation, saying that his ministry receives tasks to deepen the partnership and work with Vietnam to carry out signed agreements and major projects.

Earlier, V. Titov and his Vietnamese counterpart Ho Xuan Son chaired the two ministries’ annual political consultation. The two sides discussed plans for high-level delegation exchanges as well as measures to implement signed agreements, and activities to mark the 65 th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, agreeing to continue collaborating in the global arena, especially in the changing regional and international context.
