The delegation, headed by Lieutenant General Zhang Qinsheng, assistant chief of general staff of the PLA, attended the Conference on Security and Defence and the 2nd meeting of the Vietnam-China Joint Committee in Hanoi.

Mr Thanh highlighted the visit as a contribution to promoting the friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries' people and armies.

At the meeting, two sides informed each other of the two countries' socio-economic development, exchanged experiences in building up the armed forces and mutual concerns and reviewed the implementation of the protocol between the two defence ministries.

The same day, Mr Zhang was received by Lieutenant General Nguyen Khac Nghiem, a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee and chief of the general staff of the Vietnam People's Army.
