Vietnam wants to promote cooperation in the fields of culture, education, science and technology, said President Nguyen Minh Triet while receiving Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on July 22.

President Triet expressed his delight at Turkey’s joining the ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) and thanked Turkey for supporting Vietnam at the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Turkey and the G-20 Summit in Canada last month.

Mr. Triet lauded Turkey’s role in connecting Asia and Europe and insisted that Vietnam has always considered it important to develop friendly relations with Turkey.

The two countries should promote delegation exchanges at central, ministerial, and local levels in order to take advantage of their various potentials, said Mr. Triet, adding that Vietnam wants Turkish investors to expand their business in Vietnam.

The Turkish FM expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s heroic history and its achievements in the country’s current construction and development period.

He said Vietnam is a rising star in the region and Turkey very much wants to develop a comprehensive cooperation with the country.

Joining TAC will be a motivation for Turkey to boost cooperation with ASEAN countries, the Foreign Minister added, before extending President  Abdullah Gul’s invitation to Mr. Triet to visit Turkey soon.

Turkey is now Vietnam’s second biggest partner in West Asia. The two countries are striving to reach US$1 billion in two-way trade in the near future.
