The authorities of Hau Giang province on August 24 declared an outbreak of blue-ear disease in its area.

So far, the disease has affected 36 communes, wards and boroughs of six districts and towns in the southern province. Up to 724 infected pigs have been destroyed.

The provincial people’s committee has assigned its director of agriculture and rural development and local administrations to take urgent and drastic measures to prevent the epidemic and minimize the losses to farmers.

It has also instructed the local veterinary agency to cooperate with other forces to locate and stamp out the epidemic.

The committee has asked for raising public awareness of the harmful effects of the disease and how to deal with it.
