A German-funded project to replace narrow one-trunk bridges with concrete ones has made progress in the Mekong delta province of Ben Tre.

About 137 concrete bridges with a total length of 2,688m will be built in the province under the 350,000 Euro project which began in 2007.

To date, 75 such bridges have been opened to traffic, facilitating socio-economic development in the areas criss-crossed by local canals and rivers. As scheduled, the construction of the remaining bridges will be finished by the end of this year to serve more than 4,220 households in the province.
