Vietnam promotes business links with Algeria

Vietnam’s Ambassador to Algeria Pham Quoc Tru said that Vietnam wants to boost economic and trade links with Algeria in general and Oran city in particular, in his working trip to Oran from November 28-30.

During his trip, the Ambassador met representatives of around 30 local enterprises operating in import-export, farm produce processing and construction to introduce to them potential trade and investment opportunities in Vietnam. 

He affirmed Vietnam’s policy to boost trade exchanges with all countries in the world, including African countries, on the win-win basis.

Tru stressed that Vietnam-Algeria economic cooperation prospect is optimistic. Many Vietnamese goods have become familiar with Algerian customers while Algerian goods began to appear in Vietnam.

At a meeting with Oran governor Zaafen Abdelghani, the ambassador asked Oran government to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to do business the city.

He also proposed that Oran administration designate a suitable location to install a statue of President Ho Chi Minh and soon form a sister relationship with a Vietnamese city to further develop the relationship between the two countries.

Zaafen Abdelghani agreed with recommendations from the Vietnamese side and highly appreciated the relationship between the two countries.

He said he hoped Vietnamese enterprises will come to seek business opportunities in Oran in tourism, agriculture, construction, service, machinery and petrochemical.

Vietnam-Algeria trade value reached US$235 million in 2015 and US$140.23 million in the first half of 2016.


Vietnam exports coffee, phones and phone parts, steel and pepper to Algeria and imported animal feed, medicine, and natural mineral from the northern African country.

In terms of investment, the Bir-Seba gas and oil joint venture between PetroVietnam, Sonatrach (Algeria) and PTT (Thailand) went into operation in 2015, producing 18,000 barrels each day.
