Deputy PM assures Vietnam's wish to boost ties with Slovakia

VOV.VN - Vietnam always places importance on developing its relations with traditional countries, including Slovakia, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue said during talks with his Slovak counterpart Peter Pellegrini in Hanoi on November 27.

Both sides expressed their pleasure at recent progress in bilateral ties, especially economic and trade cooperation. In the first three quarters of 2017, two-way trade reached US$671 million, up 92% from last year's same period.

They consented to improve effectiveness of the Vietnam – Slovakia joint committee on economic cooperation, promote trade – investment exchanges, and create favourable conditions for Vietnamese and Slovak businesses to form partnerships and conduct market studies.

The two sides agreed to further affiliation across a variety of fields such as defence – security, culture, education – training, and science – technology.

Deputy PM Hue thanked the Slovak Government for its assistance given to Vietnamese expatriates in the European country, saying he believes the community will help reinforce the two nations’ friendship and collaboration.

The two officials noted with joy effective bilateral coordination and support at international forums.

Peter Pellegrini hailed the great achievements Vietnam has recorded in the Doi Moi (Renewal) process as well as its rising international status and role.

Slovakia regards Vietnam as a traditional friendly partner and desires to promote collaboration with the Southeast Asian nation in multiple fields, he said, adding that his nation supports the growth of Vietnam – EU ties as well as the signing and ratification of the EU-Vietnam free trade agreement.

With regard to the East Sea issue, both sides underlined the need to settle disputes by peaceful measures, including diplomatic and legal processes in line with international laws, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982 UNCLOS).
