NA Chairwoman meets senior leaders of Singapore

VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on November 27 paid a courtesy visit to President Halimah Jacob and met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as part of her visit to Singapore. 

The NA leader told the Singaporean President that the Vietnam National Assembly wants to consolidate mutual trust between the two legislative bodies, thereby deepening Vietnam-Singapore strategic partnership.

Ngan suggested the two sides should continue to maintain visits and contacts at all levels and coordinate closely to make good preparations for the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year. She also thanked Singapore for sending a high-level delegation to attend the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders Meeting and actively support Vietnam in successfully hosting the great event in Da Nang.

The Singaporean President congratulated Vietnam on the successful hosting of the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Meeting, which yielded positive results for member economies. She also praised Vietnam’s role in promoting the new TPP agreement, now known as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). In the coming time, countries should continue to concretize documents for the trade deal to be ratified soon, she added.

President Halimah Yacob applauded Vietnam-Singapore relations in all fields, especially economics and trade, noting that the official visit by the Vietnamese NA Chair will provide a good opportunity for enterprises to seek new investment opportunities.

On this occasion, the top Vietnamese legislator conveyed President Tran Quoc Quang's invitation to visit Vietnam to President Halimah Yacob on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 2018.

Meeting with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the top Vietnamese legislator reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy of treasuring strategic partnership with Singapore. She affirmed that Vietnam will work closely with Singapore to help the island state fulfill its missions as ASEAN Chair in 2018.

Vietnam appreciates Singapore's positive stance on the East Sea issue and believes that when assuming the chairmanship of ASEAN in 2018, Singapore will continue to have a positive voice in the East Sea issue to accelerate the building of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea Sea (COC) and the country will play an important role in reinforcing solidarity and unity within ASEAN and promoting ASEAN's central role in regional cooperation, Ngan said.

Prime Minister Lee assured that Singapore will do its utmost to settle pending issues within ASEAN during its term. He also proposed more direct flights between the two countries to boost trade and tourism.
