Co-operation in legislative work to combat children and women trafficking was the main theme of a seminar of the ASEAN Inter-Parliament Organisation (AIPO) held in HCM City on July 3.

The seminar was participated by representatives from seven AIPO-member delegations, including Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The Brunei delegation attended the seminar as a special observer, together with other observers from China, Australia, the Republic of Korea, non-Governmental organisations and other relevant organisations.

Delegates at the seminar focused their discussions on issues relating to legal framework to prevent criminals from making bad use of gaps in the laws, remove obstacles in co-operation among countries in combating children and women trafficking and increase the role of legislative bodies in resolving the issue.

They also discussed measures to strengthen co-operation among AIPO-member parliaments in controlling children and women trafficking.

Based on discussions at the seminar, participants will send a report to the 27th AIPO General Assembly, scheduled to take place in the Philippines in September 2006.
