Another draw for Liem at UAE Chess Champs

(VOV) - Vietnam’s International Grand Master Le Quang Liem was held to a draw by his Chinese rival Ma Qun at an ongoing chess tournament in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on November 19.

The player, whose elo rating is 2,705 on the FIDE rankings, also drew with Safarli Eltaj of Azerbaijan in the fifth round of the Fujairah International Chess Championship on November 18.

After six rounds, Liem got four points, ranking 8th out of a total of 58 players.

Other his strong opponents such as Etienne Bacrot of France, Sergey Fedorchuk and Alexander Moiseenko of Ukraine, and Surya Ganguly of India did not secure necessary victories.

Seed 1 Baadur Jobava of Georgia was even outplayed by Chanda Sandiphan of India to fall to 15th position.

On November 20, Liem is due to play Constantin Lupupescu of Romania, who also got four points after six games and currently ranks 10th.

In another development, junior chess player Nguyen Anh Khoi of Vietnam clinched another victory in the 11th round of the 2012 U10 World Chess Championship in Slovenia on November 19.

Khoi, who won the championship title on November 18 after round 10, defeated Andrey Asipenko of Russia in the last round, extending his winning streak.  

The Vietnamese talent has gone down in history as he won all 11 rounds of the tournament.
