The Islamic Republic of Iran is set to open a consulate in Ho Chi Minh City as part of a plan to increase cooperation with Vietnam.

This statement was made  by the visiting Vice President of Iran, Ali Saeedlou during his talks with the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Le Hoang Quan, on November 4. “I hope that Ho Chi Minh City and Iran ’s capital, Tehran, will soon establish close and effective cooperative relations in many areas,” the Iranian Vice President said.

Mr Saeedlou told Chairman Quan that Iran will present other specific proposals to strengthen relations with Vietnam at the working session of the Vietnam-Iran Joint Committee later this year. The two governments should step up cooperation in various fields including economics, finance, technology, culture and sports, he said, adding that there are numerous opportunities for cooperation between the two nations.

Chairman Quan complimented Vice President Ali Saeedlou for the achievements Iran has made in economic development so far and said he hoped both countries would continue to share their viewpoints on international issues and accelerate economic and investment cooperation.

Vice President Ali Saeedlou is visiting Vietnam on the occasion of the 3rd Asian Indoor Games. At the event, as of November 4, Iran has risen to the 5th place out of 43 participating delegations with eight gold, five silver and six bronze medals.
