The Conference on Investment in Laos to be held in Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City on August 31 will create a breakthrough for economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan and visiting Permanent Deputy Prime Minister of Laos Somsavat Lengsavad shared the same view on the up-coming conference when they met in HCM City on August 29.

The city’s leader affirmed that the conference will be a good opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to learn about the Lao market and seek business and investment opportunities.
He briefed attendees on the city’s socio-economic situation over the past eight months and its efforts to overcome the impacts of the global economic slowdown.

Deputy PM Somsavat Lengsavad, who is leading a Lao Government’s delegation to the conference, expressed his belief that many Vietnamese and Laotians would find partners at the conference and said he hoped that more enterprises from Vietnam, particularly from HCM City, would tap the Lao market.

He said that like Vietnam, Laos has faced many difficulties due to the global economic slowdown. The country’s economic growth decreased and many socio-economic goals were not fulfilled. But, nevertheless, the lives of the Lao people have been constantly improving.
