Melbourne lights up for Mid-Autumn Festival

(VOV) - Thousands gathered in Melbourne, Australia to kick-off the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations with the light-up of iconic lanterns amidst the backdrop of thunderous sounds of firecrackers and roaring lions.

The festival takes place on a large scale with pavilions featuring culinary art, outdoor music stage and entertainment sites for children. 

The opening ceremony on September 19 in Sunshine, Australia (a suburb of Melbourne) with lion dances and pavilions introducing traditional products for mid-autumn festival.

Cultural and arts activities include legerdemain from Vietnam and Australia.

The festival includes a feast for the festival, a lantern parade, folk games, martial arts for children. 

The Vice President of the Sunshine Business Association says the festival is an annual traditional cultural event.

The festival teaches Vietnamese children in Melbourne about the homelands traditions and cultural heritage.

Apart from activities during the day, children have an opportunity to play folk games in the evening and learn about the roots of the Vietnamese nation.
