Vietnam supports Russia’s efforts to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO) soon and does not propose having bilateral negotiations with the country on its WTO entry, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Dung at a regular press briefing held in Hanoi on April 5.

In reply to reporters’ questions about the recent working session between representatives of the Vietnamese Trade Ministry and the Russian Federation on economic and trade ties between the two countries after Vietnam became an official WTO member, Mr Dung said from April1-3, the two sides discussed pending issues related to tariff and non-tariff barriers in bilateral economic ties which are preventing Vietnamese enterprises from penetrating the Russian market.

The meeting‘s positive results met with the two sides’ expectations.  In terms of technical issues, they pledged to reach an agreement at the earliest.

Vietnam wants to boost economic and trade ties with Russia as part of the Vietnam- Russia traditional friendship and strategic partnership, Mr Dung said.
