Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem will join a number of activities of the United Nations Security Council in New York from July 15-19.

Speaking at a press briefing on July 10, Foreign Ministry (FM) spokesperson Le Dung announced that Deputy PM Khiem will chair a UNSC open debate on the topic of Children Affected by Armed Conflicts (CAAC) on July 17.


Mr Khiem is also scheduled to meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the President of the UN General Assembly, leaders of several UN bodies, and representatives of a number of countries.


Mr Dung also revealed that Deputy PM Khiem will lead a delegation to regional meetings in Singapore from July 20-25.


These include the 41st ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM-41), the Post Ministerial Conference (PMC), the East Asia Summit (EAS) Ministerial Meeting and the 15th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF-15).


According to plan, Foreign Ministers from ASEAN member countries and dialogue nations will discuss directions and measures to implement the goal of ASEAN Community and prepare for the enforcement of the ASEAN Charter.


At the meetings, they will also look into ways to boost cooperation between ASEAN and outside partners as well as regional and international of mutual concern.


The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
