162 scholarships worth more than VND800 million were granted to new college students from the Central Highlands on September 13.

Representatives from the Binh Dien Fertilizer Company, Tuoi Tre newspaper, and VTV presented the scholarships to poor and disadvantaged students from Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Dak Nong and Kon Tum provinces.

The scholarships, each worth VND5 million, will help the students overcome their difficulties and perform better in their higher education.

The ‘School Fundraiser Golf Tournament’ scholarship program was started in 2003, providing 27 scholarships for new students from the central province of Quang Tri.

So far, the program has awarded nearly 6,500 scholarships totalling nearly VND30 billion to underprivileged students across the country.

Scholarship recipient Thuy Tien from Tay Nguyen University told VOV that she hopes that the scholarship program will continue to provide assistance for other disadvantaged students like her, so that they can successfully pursue their college studies.
