A special Sunflower Day for Children with Cancer was held at the Children’s Palace in Hanoi on November 7.

The event was organised by the Youth (Tuoi Tre) newspaper, Hanoi’s Youth Union and a group of young volunteers. It commemorates the day when a young patient named Le Thanh Thuy in Ho Chi Minh City died of cancer. The day is also known by another name “Thuy’s Dream”, and has been celebrated successfully three times before.

At the event, thousands of participants stuck 10,000 small sunflower images, sold for VND10,000 each, to a large board to create a field of sunflowers, which will be combined with 15,000 sunflower images gathered in HCM City. All proceeds from the sale of the sunflowers will be donated to a fund for children with cancer.

Sixty pictures drawn by young cancer patients were also displayed and sold for VND300,000 each to raise more funds.

There was another exhibition of stories and photos about children with cancer and 200 copies of Le Thanh Thuy’s diary, and 100 CDs by Vo Hoang Ngan, a young patient, and 14 volunteers were introduced and sold.

Ambassador for the event, Miss Asia Huong Giang, visited and presented gifts to young patients in the Children Hospital and Hospital K-National Cancer Institute.

There were also arts performances and exchanges between doctors and patients, parents, sponsors, volunteers, and Miss Huong Giang.
