By June 2006, the country had 3.7 million Internet subscribers, an increase of 170,000 against May, and more than 12.8 million Internet users, according to the Ministry of Post and Telematics.

ADSL has been deployed in almost all cities and provinces across the country, with the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Corporation (VNPT) becoming the largest ADSL provider. It is followed by the Financing and Promoting Technology Corporation (FPT) and Military Telecommunication Corporation (Viettel). The three make up 98 percent of the ADSL service market in Vietnam.

According to the ministry, post and telecom services posted rapid growth in the first six months. Nearly 3.5 million new telephone subscribers were registered in the reviewed period, an increase of 101 percent from a year ago. As a result, Vietnam now has 19.3 million telephone subscribers, representing 23 sets/100 people.
