Avocado cultivation for Lampang folks

The authorities of Lampang Province are to encourage the Akha hill tribe people in Ngao District to grow avocadoes.

Lampang Governor Songphon Sawattham recently visited agriculturists of the Akha tribe in Ban Mae Khamla, Ngow District to listen to their problems and needs.

The information was used in setting guidelines in developing the area to sustainably improve the quality of life of the mountain folk of Thailand.

It was found that most of the local agriculturists and residents want support in career development regarding growing alternative economic plants that meet market demand, to produce incomes that compensate for the lack of mono-cropping.

The Lampang Governor proposed that the community grow economic cold-region plants, using plants that he will supply. This suits the needs of the local people.

They want to grow avocadoes, persimmons and Assam tea of good quality, but especially avocado trees because some local residents have already planted them with good results and the avocadoes are now being harvested.
